Omron HJ-112 Pedometer Review

Which is the best pedometer step counter for a 10,000 step daily walking program?

Health magazine rated the Omron HJ-112 Digital Pocket Pedometer as one of its best products.

This pedometer is a great tool to use in keeping track of your workouts, whether you walk, jog or speedwalk. It is so easy to use that you can keep track of your steps, distance and calories burned when you are strolling around the mall, walking to your car or running after your children.

The most unique feature of the Omron HJ-112 is that it works if placed on your waistband, in your pocket or clipped on to your pocketbook.

This allows you to keep track of your steps and distance walked all day, not just during your workout.  Which helps you achieve your 10,000 step daily goal.

According to many studies, pedometer wearers clock 2,000 more steps a day.  It serves as a constant reminder to walk more.

Best Pedometer for a 10,000 steps per day walking program

Bob Greene shares how to use your step counter to motivate you to meet walking fitness goals:

Cheap pedometers don’t have a clip to hold your step counter in place.

You will notice that your Omron will often detach from your waistband throughout the day.  However, its clip keeps it safe so it is not lost.  Cheap pedometers just get lost if they fall off.

I have even made a mistake and washed my Omron pedometer.

After letting it dry for a day, as the old Timex commercials used to say . . .  it takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

Many pedometers are difficult to read while they are in use because you have to open the front flap to see the display.

Since the Omron Healthcare Digital Pedometer HJ-112 does not have a front flap you can see your progress with every step you take.  You will find yourself checking often for how many steps you have taken toward your goal each day.

I rarely forget to put my pedometer on each morning.  The worst thing is to forget to have it with you on a high step count day.  You will feel cheated.

The Omron HJ-112 unit measures the number of aerobic steps, defined as the number of continuous steps taken in 10 minutes or walking more than 60 steps in a minute. Intensity and duration of exercise are important in achieving a cardio benefit and in burning calories.

A memory function on the Omron pedometer shows data for seven days so you can track your progress whether you are training for an event or just trying to keep track of your daily workouts.
