The rat race has reached new levels with the Human Sized Hamster Wheel. It is literally a hamster wheel minus the hamster, instead you are inside.
We all know the dangers of sitting all day and yet many of us either by choice or because of the dictates of our work sit….all….day and then you know what? We leave our desks and we go sit in front of the TV. It is literally killing us and making us fat.
Though partly tongue-in-cheek, or at least I assume it is partly tongue-in-cheek, the human sized hamster wheel was built as a collaboration between Pier 9 Artist-in-Residence Robb Godshaw and Instructables Developer Will Doenlen.
Measuring 80 inches in diameter the wheel rests on a 24-inch wide base which has four skateboard wheels held together by two pipes. The wheel is built of plywood, glue and about 240 wood screws. A regular standing desk is placed inside. You will need a big office if you intend to build the wheel.
The design does not include brakes, so if you are in the wheel you are walking.
I have looked at a number of videos of the human wheel. Some of them show people walking others show people running and I mean running not jogging. Anyone running fast in a hamster wheel is clearly not working.
If working in a big wheel is not for you consider a standing desk, which allows you to work while standing still.
