Walking With An Umbrella

We have had an unusual amount of rain in Atlanta this winter.

In fact we have gone from drought conditions to having flash flood warnings in a matter of weeks if not days.

A couple of days ago I got up early to try to beat yet another storm that was heading our way.

Thanks to all the weather phone apps we now know to the hour when the rain will come which makes it

Get Up and Get Moving

When Jaycee was younger I would stand the couch cushions up so she would not be able to lie on the couch.

She was not deterred; she just made the best of a bad situation.

The fact is she was comfortable sitting under the cushions. I on the other hand had nowhere to sit.

It was just as well.

Not being able to sit on the couch meant I would not spend as much

Have Fun With Your Camera

Turn your camera into an entertainment center if you are stuck in your house.

It may be the weather that keeps you inside or a kid who is not sick enough to be confined to bed but not well enough to go to school.  This is the perfect time to have fun with your camera.  My nephew is a master at this.

One Christmas we were housebound for days with relatives.

Walking in Snow Safety Tips!

The great blizzard of 2013 has hit the northeast.  Cars and trucks are stuck everywhere.  It is easier and safer to walk than to drive.  Keep the following safety tips in mind as you get out and enjoy the fresh snow.

Take your time:

Now is not the time to be in a hurry.  Plan ahead and take extra time to get places.  Many accidents occur because you are in hurry or not paying

Is That A Scary Rain Drop?

The sun will come out again……..but not today.

Jaycee and I walk in all kinds of weather – fog, rain, snow, you name it.

Jaycee hates and I mean hates to get her feet wet so once the puddles start to build it is just not worth it.  She will jump over puddles large and small almost pulling my arm out of its socket.

And as much as she likes the thrill of sliding on

Relaxing After My Morning Walk In Nike Air Miler Walking Shoes

The Nike Women’s Air Miler Walk +2 are my favorite walking shoes.

I have tried so many walking shoes and have found fault with each one.  Some are too firm, others too flexible.  But these shoes are just right!

I walk 25+ aerobic miles plus a few more walking around miles per week in these shoes and never experience any foot, knee or toe pain all of which I am prone too.

Pollution Levels Linked to Heart Attacks & Strokes

We all know that eating certain foods and lack of exercise can increase our risk of having a stroke or heart attack but can the very air we breathe increase our risk?  I bet most of us did not know that. Several studies have shown that air pollution can increase our risk of having a heart attack or stroke after even a few hours of exposure.

Scientists have found that people exposed to high

Front Porch Atlanta Pollen

When someone refers to streets paved with “gold” you generally think gold bullion.  Here in Atlanta we think pollen.

Everything is covered in a thick coating of gold pollen.  If you sit down outside you have to wipe the pollen off your bottom before you go inside.  Set a glass of tea down outside and you will find a yellow ring around the rim of your glass and pollen floating in your drink.

Lose Weight on Weight Watchers

About 10 years ago I lost 25 pounds on Weight Watchers which I have managed to keep off by watching what I eat and having a vigorous exercise program that includes daily walks.

I still use Weight Watchers when I find my weight inching up.

I could stand to lose 10 more pounds, not enough to qualify me for the Biggest Loser but I don’t want my weight to creep up on me since it is
