Destination Walking

"Everywhere is walking distance if you have the time."   Steven Wright

destination walking Our first pedometers arrived in the mail from Drugstore.com about 1 year ago.   My wife, dog and I decided to test them out by taking our first destination walk to Dunkin Donuts.

What? Dunkin’ Donuts?

Yes, Dunkin Donuts!  You see Dunkin Donuts is about 5 miles round trip from our house.  We stopped for a cup of coffee and a cup of water.  Dunkin Donuts was our resting stop halfway in our travels.

Destination walks are great as long as you don’t consume thousands of calories at your destination.  Having a specific location a couple of miles away forces you to double the distance.

It is much easier to destination walk for long distances because there is no turning back.  Once you have walked to your destination, you have to return.

Teva Sandals - Shoe Review

teva sandals shoes

Teva sandals shoes are recommended whether you will be walking in the city or spending the day on a boat.  I wore my Tevas all over the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador.

I spent the week on a boat where we took an inflatable boat to the islands.  My Tevas were great on the boat and hiking the islands!  And they did not take up much space in my suitcase!

Testimony - The Joy of Walking

Deciding I wanted to get back into shape after putting on a lot of weight during my pregnancy was easier than doing it. I tried a lot of different diets including Atkins and discovered that deprivation wasn’t something that worked for me. I simply couldn’t stick to a diet that cut out a lot of my favorite foods entirely.

When the quick fixes didn’t work, I started watching my portions and eating three or four small meals a day. Still, the pounds didn’t shed. I discovered that thinking I wanted to lose the weight and get into shape was a heck of lot easier than putting that thought into action. Action was what I needed though.

Edinburgh, Scotland - Utopia Walking Vacation

walking vacations edinburgh scotlandEdinburgh, Scotland is famed for its highlands, and more than just a little of this is evident in its capital city.  Edinburgh is rife with undulating streets and steep hills that have been celebrated by British writers for centuries.

‘What a wonderful city Edinburgh is!’ said Samuel Taylor Coleridge, ‘what alternation of height and depth.’ This beautiful city is filled with medieval wonders and modern pleasures.  A walking trip based there will inevitably be a richly rewarding one.

European cities, which typically developed over time from medieval settlements, are usually more compact that their counterparts.  Edinburgh is the perfect example of this fact.  The good news is that most of its many attractions are easily accessible to even less seasoned walkers.
